On July 18, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents at the San Ysidro port of entry arrested an unidentified woman carrying a small bag containing 13 grams of methamphetamine.
According to CBP’s official statement, the woman was arrested after agents “located a cell phone on the floor of the vehicle.”
The agency reported, “During the preliminary processing, the female advised she was on her way from Mexico City to San Diego, where her family lived. When questioned by the officers about the drugs, she responded ‘I’m not doing anything,’ and ‘I did not know it was there.’ She was placed into an interview room for further questioning.”
After processing the woman, CBP reported, “A follow-up investigation led to the discovery of 13 grams of methamphetamine concealed inside the lining of the woman’s shoe.”
The agency stated, “The woman was referred to the CBP [Tijuana] Port Director for a Notice to Appear before an immigration judge.”
This is the latest drug seizure CBP has recorded at the San Ysidro port of entry.
Last August, two Mexican nationals were arrested by CBP agents at the border. The men, Mexican nationals aged 24 and 18, were carrying methamphetamine, which is most often trafficked by Mexican cartels. CBP reported, “The men were found with a total of seven grams of methamphetamine.”
Between January and June, CBP seized nearly 5,000 pounds of marijuana. In 2018, CBP officers arrested 143 Mexican nationals at the border on drug-related charges.
